elete your BrainMatch account
You can delete your account and everything in it yourself, at any time, from the app. It takes about ten seconds and no one has to approve it.
In the app
- Open BrainMatch and go to You.
- Tap Privacy and my data.
- Tap Delete my account and data and confirm.
That deletes your account, your answers, your check-ins, your journal, your photos, your questionnaires and your brain map, on our server and on your phone. If you were linked with a partner, the link ends for both of you at the same moment. Your partner's own answers stay with them, and they are told only that the couple has ended. A letter you had given your partner is deleted with your account. Backups you made yourself stay on your own devices until you remove them.
If you can't get into the app
Email zachary@brainmatch.app from the address you signed in with and say "delete my account". A person (not a machine) confirms it's you by replying to that address, then deletes the account and everything above and confirms by email. We answer within one month, and usually within a few days. There is no form to fill in and no reason to give.
What still exists for a while after deletion
Nothing that identifies you stays in the app. A few things age out on their own, in the words of our [privacy page](/privacy):
- Encrypted backups that still hold your data age out within 35 days.
- Crash reports (no names, no answers) are deleted after 90 days.
- The security log keeps an entry under a random id, not your name, for 12 months.
- Beta or investor form entries on the website are deleted after 12 months, or sooner if you ask.
- Emails you sent us (bug reports, questions) aren't deleted automatically; ask and we'll delete yours.
Turning off part of your data instead
You don't have to delete everything to delete something. Every kind of data in BrainMatch has its own switch under Privacy and my data; turning a switch off deletes what was stored under it, and the app warns you first. The full list is on the [privacy page](/privacy).
